Pre-Contract Practice and Contract Administration

The original series of Aqua Group books – Tenders and Contracts for Building, Pre-Contract Practice and Contract Administration – first published from 1960 – 1975 has long been established as laying down good practice for the building team, as well as for students. The Aqua group is a team of architects and quantity surveyors which was originally founded in the 1950s and has since acquired several new generations of members.

This volume brings together the material from Pre-Contract Practice and Contract Administration and it was published in 2003. The text has been substantially updated to take account of changes to industry practise, JCT98, the Construction Act and a host of other changes. It also contains a chapter on capital allowances.

The editors of this edition are Mark Hackett and Ian Robinson. Mark Hackett is the Senior Partner of Mark Hackett Associates LLP and Ian Robinson is a Partner and the Head of Legal Support at Davis Langdon LLP. They specialise in legal support services and have been involved in numerous items of dispute avoidance and dispute resolution, many of these concerning reported cases.

Procurement, Tendering & Contract Administration

The original series of Aqua Group books – Tenders and Contracts for Building, Pre-Contract Practice and Contract Administration – first published from 1960 – 1975 has long been established as laying down good practice for the building team, as well as for students. The Aqua group is a team of architects and quantity surveyors which was originally founded in the 1950s and has since acquired several new generations of members.

The Aqua Group guide to Procurement, Tendering & Contract Administration is the merging of three established textbooks written by the Aqua Group, a highly respected group of architects and quantity surveyors. This particular edition has been edited and updated by Mark Hackett, Gary Statham (both Partners in Mark Hackett Associates LLP). They specialise in legal support services and have been involved in numerous items of dispute avoidance and dispute resolution, many of these concerning reported cases.

This consolidated volume, published in 2016, covers the entire building process from inception through to final account. With clear and thorough explanations by practising professionals, you are taken through self contained chapters covering the detail of:

  • the briefing stage;
  • procurement methods;
  • tendering procedures; and
  • contract administration.

Throughout, the emphasis is on current best practice and the book draws from the widely used Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) series of contracts, notably the 2011 edition of the Standard Building Contract.

This authoritative guide provides a detailed account of the building team’s roles and responsibilities, and industry practice required to ensure that that projects meet clients’ expectations in respect of time, cost and quality.

The Presentation and Settlement of Contractors’ Claims

The Presentation and Settlement of Contractors’ Claims provides a detailed and practical examination of contractors’ claims which will be of interest to those who make claims, those who have to assess them and those who pay for them. Contractual disputes, often involving large sums of money, are frequent occurrences in the construction industry, and this book presents, in user-friendly language, sound professional advice from recognised experts in the field on the practical aspects of claims.

The book was published in 2001 and it covers the 1998 versions of the JCT contracts and it also extends to cover the 1998 versions of GC/Works and the second edition of the New Engineering Contract.

This book is co-authored by Geoffrey Trickey (former Senior Partner of Davis Langdon LLP) and Mark Hackett (Senior Partner of Mark Hackett Associates LLP).
